RE: To purchase a RV lot in a park... or not!

Why would anyone wish to stay in the same place every year?
My personal example is all I know to go by, so
In 1982, in an effort to cut cost in our rving life, I purchased 5 acres in N Tex for a hiddyhole for the good weather . It cost me 1600 an acre. The taxes were 88.00 per year. It cost me about 1500 dollars to put the site in for our rv. In 87, the owner offered me an additional 107 acres for 1400 an acre and he would finance it for 10 years. I took the deal.
Today the land is worth over 15,000 PER ACRE.
In 1993, we purchased a piece of land just outside Julian Ca and put a parking spot on it. Cost us 8000. Today that land is worth about 50,000. In 2000 we purchased 20 acres in North Ga mountains, and built a house, sold it and kept 15 acres with an rv site on it. Dont even want to know what it is worth.
Do we feel obligated to go to these sites? Calif havent been there in 11 years. N Ga havent been there in 5 years. By using our N Tex site, we save enough to pay the taxes easily on the other two.
Moral is land , no matter where it is , will go up. So will rent!! If you enjoy an area and plan on staying there for any length of time, you should consider buying.

RE: Where do you invest your money?

CD tiering is ok, IF you dont need the money, nor expect to use it for one year. In todays economic climate, with rates changing DAILY, tying up money for one year, is kinda like gambling. Course lots of us wish we had tied some up a few years back at 7 percent.
You should examine your own needs , year to year, and if you want to accept a say 2 percent rate up to 4 percent for the next five years, go for it. Personally I can make more money than that, flipping quarters at the laundry room or pitching pennies at the shuffleboard area. And some of the local poker games are really paying good.

RE: Reg MH in another state

If you work in Calif, and draw a paycheck, it dont matter where you want to register it or where you do. They will find you and take ALL your money, honey.
They are VERY good at that, in addition, your neighbor can get paid for turning your tail in (and you get to pay that part too).

RE: Wondering why ...

For the OP, yea, some questions are mundane and oft repeated. BUT, if they didnt ask those questions, why would we need this forum? LOL, we would all talk about fuel prices.

RE: when is a camper to old

For the OP, believe me with your post, I feel confident your trailer will not be disallowed. These "uppity" rv parks that do enforce the 10 year rule, are doing so to protect the ones, I assume, like yourself, from the meth labs that are out there, and they are out there.
Many may ask for a picture of your rig, so expect that , but do not be afraid when they do mention it. (Sometimes, I often wonder why most parks refuse School bus conversions, and then I see some and I know why).
It is common pratice in the "uppity" parks. Only private owned parks do this anyway.
Ask yourself one question, "Would you like to rv, camp, live, in a park that allowed ANYONE AND ANYTHING? If so, I would be happy to provide you with a list of those parks. However, you may have to move 5 loads of trash, to get to your assigned site.

RE: Again looking for campground

with no kids, try
1. Coastal Villa rv park in Diego, across the I-5 from Mission Bay
up the street try the one a block west of this one.
2. Morena Blvd rv park.
3. Santa Fe rv resort, across the I-5 from Mission Bay
Those are the cheapest, most close to the water. They are safe.

RE: Business Use of Coach and taxes

Actually Skip, I try to be helpful and give pertinent info that I know for sure is the rule, however, some people continue to post false info and then want to argue about it. When I post something, it is legal and pertinent to the question. I know for sure that what I post is true and accurate, and continue to see false stuff posted. After 32 years in the legal profession, I make sure I know what I say, before I say it. Can others please do the same?
If the company takes a depreciation, then they can certify a dividend to the owner and then it becomes tax exempt , so to speak. Check that out with your tax attorney. And one more time, if you use the rv for business and its primary reason is for business, as it should be, and you keep careful records of the use and travels, it is 100 percent a writeoff. And up to 250 grand , it is one year do able. No depreciation, and anytime you wish to give it to yourself, it is also doable. Check with a good tax attorney who knows what business and fulltiming is all about.
If an executive of a corp, takes a trip, and the company pays all the expenses, does the executive have to claim that as income? Nope. The same applies to a rv and business use.
Actually this forum or any forum is not a good place to discuss taxable items.

RE: Furnace will not light. Help needed, it is getting cold!

Sounds like a blip in the gas line . Disconnect at the valve and see if you got gas coming in. If you do, then you need to slap the valve a time or two lightly and try to unclog the thing.
I hope you know that you can call Atwood on their 800 number for troubleshooting.

RE: I20 Dallas to Atlanta in Late November

Stop at the casino in Vicksburg and overnight in their parking lot.
Stop at the lake in Ala and overnight in the parking lots.
Stop at the Rest stop on the Ala, Ga line and overnight, nice place.
There are many places to stop, if you look. There are many closed shops, stores, malls, McDonalds, etc where we have overnighted 100s of times on that route.

RE: Daytona Turkey Run Camping

International rv park on Internation blvd, west of I-95 has dry camping in the back of their huge park. That is the place for the cars. Like above, the park is a show in itself during the run. Or you could use Nova Family campground on Herbert st, Port Orange, it is as close to dry camping as you will find.

RE: full time for a couple years??

We lived in our rv for 31 years, living and working in every state. In 2000 we (actually her) decided she and I needed a home. So we bought some land in North Georgia mountains, built a Home and Garden house, spent our next 3 1/2 years working 5 days a week on it, upkeep, maintenance, paint, adding on, you name it , we did it to that house.
Both woke up one morning, looked at each others eyes, and said "What the hell are we doing"?
Put that sucker up for sale that very day, took 3 weeks to get rid of the stuff we had bought , bought a new rv , sold the anchor around our neck, and I aint a looking back.

RE: Charging for pets

Very basic question, deserves a very basic answer:
"What's the ratioanle behind charging for pets? Especailly cats? In fact, do people even claim an indoor cat as a pet if there is a fee for pets, since the park owners may or may not even notice?"
The ratioanle (sp) is that some pay it and the park owners have found out they can charge for it and collect.

RE: Who are the "no pets allowed" parks?

Funny?
The funniest part is we have been fulltiming with a dog for many , many years, and we have NEVER, EVER, run into the problems that some of you folks post about.
Sure makes me wonder sometimes, just where you guys go to run into all the dog problems. Oh and we have stayed at over 700 parks in those years. If you care to post what parks are a problem, I sure would like to know.
